METHOD FOR CONTROLLING FLEXIBLE DISPLAY AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE SUPPORTING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17992333 titled 'METHOD FOR CONTROLLING FLEXIBLE DISPLAY AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE SUPPORTING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic device with a flexible display that includes a first area and a second area. The device also includes a motor module that can move part of the second area based on different driving states. A processor is connected to the display and motor module and can identify changes in the motor module's characteristic value when transitioning between states. The processor then controls the motor module to change the exposed area of the device based on the identified characteristic value.

  • Electronic device with a flexible display and motor module
  • Motor module can move part of the display based on different driving states
  • Processor identifies changes in the motor module's characteristic value when transitioning between states
  • Processor controls the motor module to change the exposed area of the device based on the identified characteristic value

Potential Applications

  • Smartphones or tablets with flexible displays that can adjust the exposed area based on user preferences or specific tasks
  • E-readers that can change the size of the display area for different reading experiences
  • Wearable devices with flexible displays that can adapt to different wrist sizes or clothing styles

Problems Solved

  • Provides flexibility and adaptability in the display area of electronic devices
  • Allows users to customize the exposed area based on their preferences or specific needs
  • Enhances user experience by providing a dynamic and adjustable display

Benefits

  • Improved usability and comfort by allowing users to adjust the display area
  • Increased flexibility in device design by incorporating a flexible display
  • Enhanced functionality by adapting the display area to different tasks or situations

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device is provided. The electronic device comprising a flexible display includes a first area and a second area extending from the first area, a motor module configured to move at least a part of the second area according to a driving state in the first state and the second state, and a processor electrically connected to the flexible display and the motor module. The processor identifies a characteristic value related to the motor module when being changed from the first state to the second state and controls the motor module such that an area exposed to the outside of the electronic device among the second area is changed based on the identified characteristic value.
