WELLBORE LIFT SYSTEM WITH SPRING-ASSISTED PLUNGER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17988143 titled 'WELLBORE LIFT SYSTEM WITH SPRING-ASSISTED PLUNGER

Simplified Explanation

The wellbore lift system with spring-assisted plunger described in the patent application includes an elongate body, multiple propellers, and a spring-loaded flow control assembly. The system is designed to allow for fluid flow control in a wellbore, enabling the production of hydrocarbons to the surface.

  • The elongate body can move through the wellbore, providing a pathway for the well tool assembly.
  • Multiple propellers are located within the body and can spin radially as the well tool assembly travels downhole.
  • The spring-loaded flow control assembly is connected to the propellers and can regulate fluid flow in response to the movement of the well tool assembly.
  • The flow control assembly can store potential energy in the spring when fluid flow is permitted uphole, and release this energy when fluid flow is prevented downhole.

Potential Applications

The technology can be applied in oil and gas production operations to enhance the efficiency of lifting hydrocarbons to the surface.

Problems Solved

This technology addresses the challenge of controlling fluid flow in a wellbore, particularly during the production of hydrocarbons.

Benefits

- Improved fluid flow control - Increased efficiency in hydrocarbon production - Enhanced wellbore operations

Potential Commercial Applications

"Enhancing Fluid Flow Control in Wellbore Operations"

Possible Prior Art

There may be prior art related to spring-assisted plunger systems in wellbore operations, but specific examples are not provided in the patent application.

Unanswered Questions

== How does the system handle variations in fluid flow rates within the wellbore? The patent application does not detail how the system adjusts to different fluid flow rates encountered during operation.

== What materials are used in the construction of the system to ensure durability in harsh wellbore environments? The patent application does not specify the materials used for the elongate body, propellers, and spring-loaded flow control assembly, raising questions about their suitability for challenging conditions.

Original Abstract Submitted

A wellbore lift system with spring-assisted plunger includes an elongate body, multiple propellers and a spring-loaded flow control assembly. The body can traverse through a wellbore. The wellbore can produce the hydrocarbons to the surface. The body defines an interior volume within which the multiple propellers are disposed. The propellers can spin radially in response to the well tool assembly traveling downhole through the wellbore. The spring-loaded flow control assembly is coupled to the propellers. The flow control assembly can, in response to the well tool assembly traveling downhole through the wellbore, permit fluid flow uphole of the well tool assembly, and can store potential energy in the spring. In response to the well tool assembly traveling uphole through the wellbore, the spring-loaded flow control assembly can prevent fluid flow downhole of the well tool assembly and discharge the potential energy in the spring.
