PAGING WITH MULTIPLE MONITORING OCCASIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17959482 titled 'PAGING WITH MULTIPLE MONITORING OCCASIONS

Simplified Explanation

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in this patent application. The techniques described aim to determine the optimal time to stop monitoring a wireless channel for paging information. Here are the key points:

  • The patent application focuses on wireless communications and specifically on determining when to stop monitoring a wireless channel for paging information.
  • The user equipment (UE) identifies multiple paging occasions associated with a wireless channel and monitors the channel for paging information during the first paging occasion.
  • The UE determines the channel occupancy status of the base station with respect to the wireless channel.
  • Based on the determined channel occupancy status, the UE calculates the optimal time to stop monitoring the wireless channel for paging information.
  • The UE then ignores the remaining paging occasions based on the calculated time to stop monitoring.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This technology can be applied in wireless communication systems, especially in unlicensed radio frequency spectrum bands.
  • It can be used in various devices that rely on wireless communication, such as smartphones, tablets, IoT devices, etc.
  • The techniques described in the patent application can improve the efficiency of wireless communication by reducing unnecessary monitoring of the wireless channel.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Determining the optimal time to stop monitoring a wireless channel for paging information can help conserve battery life in devices.
  • It can reduce the amount of unnecessary data transmission and processing, leading to improved overall system performance.
  • By ignoring the remaining paging occasions, the technology can minimize interference and improve the reliability of wireless communication.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved battery life in devices due to reduced monitoring of the wireless channel.
  • Enhanced efficiency and performance of wireless communication systems.
  • Minimized interference and improved reliability of wireless communication.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for determining a time to stop monitoring a wireless channel for paging information. In some examples, a user equipment (UE) may identify a plurality of paging occasions associated with a wireless channel (e.g., of an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band) and monitor the wireless channel for paging information from a base station during a first paging occasion of the plurality of paging occasions. The UE may determine a channel occupancy status of the base station with respect to the wireless channel and may determine a time to stop monitoring the wireless channel for paging information. The UE may ignore a remainder of the plurality of paging occasions based on the determined time to stop monitoring the wireless channel.
