FEEDBACK PER CODE BLOCK GROUP - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17956437 titled 'FEEDBACK PER CODE BLOCK GROUP

Simplified Explanation

The patent application is for a method of providing feedback per code block group (CBG) in a communication system, where transport blocks and coding block groups are received, and reports are generated based on the correct or incorrect reception of these blocks.

  • The method involves receiving transport blocks containing coding block groups from a network element.
  • It determines which transport blocks and coding block groups were received correctly or incorrectly.
  • Based on this determination, it transmits reports identifying the correctly and incorrectly received transport blocks.
  • If any transport blocks were received incorrectly, a second report is transmitted identifying the coding block groups that were incorrectly received from those blocks.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various communication systems where feedback on the reception of data blocks is necessary, such as wireless networks, satellite communications, and multimedia streaming services.

Problems Solved

1. Ensures accurate feedback on the reception of data blocks, allowing for efficient error correction and retransmission. 2. Helps improve the overall reliability and performance of communication systems by identifying and addressing reception issues promptly.

Benefits

1. Enhanced data transmission reliability and quality. 2. Optimal utilization of network resources through efficient error handling. 3. Improved user experience with seamless multimedia streaming and communication services.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimized Feedback Mechanism for Data Transmission in Wireless Networks

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art in this field is the use of Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest (HARQ) protocols in communication systems to provide feedback on the reception of data blocks and enable error correction.

What are the key components of the feedback mechanism described in the patent application?

The key components of the feedback mechanism include receiving transport blocks with coding block groups, determining correct or incorrect reception of these blocks, generating reports based on this determination, and transmitting reports to identify the status of received blocks.

How does the proposed method improve the efficiency of error correction in communication systems?

The proposed method improves the efficiency of error correction by accurately identifying incorrectly received transport blocks and coding block groups, allowing for targeted retransmission of only the necessary data to ensure reliable communication.

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for feedback per code block group (CBG). A method may include receiving from a network element, at least one transport block including at least one coding block group. The method may also include determining which of the at least one transport block and the at least one coding block group was correctly or incorrectly received. The method may further include transmitting, based on the determination, a first report which identifies transport blocks of the at least one transport block that was correctly received and incorrectly received. In addition, the method may include, upon determining that at least one of the transport blocks was received incorrectly, transmitting a second report identifying coding block groups of the at least one coding block group that was incorrectly received from the transport blocks that were incorrectly received.
