Fuel Cell - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17937162 titled 'Fuel Cell
Simplified Explanation
The abstract describes a fuel cell design that includes a cell stack, end plates, an enclosure, and gaskets. One of the gaskets has a protruding portion while the other has a depressed portion to fit together.
- The fuel cell includes a cell stack with multiple unit cells stacked in a specific direction.
- The end plates are placed on the side ends of the cell stack.
- An enclosure surrounds a side portion of the cell stack and is divided into segments.
- A plate gasket is placed on the end plate, and an enclosure gasket is placed between the segments of the enclosure.
- One of the gaskets has a protruding portion that sticks out in the specified direction.
- The other gasket has a depressed portion that is lowered in the specified direction to receive and fit the protruding portion.
Potential applications of this technology:
- Fuel cells can be used in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, and power generation.
- This simplified design can make fuel cells more efficient and cost-effective.
- The technology can be applied to different sizes and types of fuel cells.
Problems solved by this technology:
- The design simplifies the assembly process of fuel cells.
- The gaskets ensure a secure and tight fit between the different components of the fuel cell.
- The protruding and depressed portions of the gaskets provide a reliable connection that prevents leakage.
Benefits of this technology:
- Improved efficiency and performance of fuel cells.
- Reduced manufacturing and assembly costs.
- Enhanced reliability and durability of fuel cell systems.
- Potential for increased adoption of fuel cell technology in various industries.
Original Abstract Submitted
In an embodiment a fuel cell includes a cell stack having a plurality of unit cells stacked in a first direction, an end plate disposed on at least one of both side ends of the cell stack, an enclosure coupled to the end plate to surround a side portion of the cell stack, the enclosure being divided into a plurality of segments, a plate gasket disposed on the end plate and an enclosure gasket disposed between the plurality of segments, wherein one of the plate gasket and the enclosure gasket comprises a protruding portion protruding in the first direction, and a remaining one of the plate gasket and the enclosure gasket comprises a depressed portion depressed in the first direction to receive the protruding portion fitted thereinto.
