AEROSOL GENERATING DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17922917 titled 'AEROSOL GENERATING DEVICE

The abstract describes an aerosol-generating device that can determine the type of aerosol-generating article accommodated in the device and control the operation of the heater based on this information.

  • The device includes an accommodation space for the aerosol-generating article.
  • A heater heats the article to generate aerosol.
  • A transducer emits and receives ultrasonic waves to determine the type of article present.
  • A processor analyzes the signals from the transducer to identify the type of article and adjust the heater operation accordingly.

Potential Applications: - This technology could be used in electronic cigarettes or vaping devices to optimize the aerosol generation process. - It could also find applications in air fresheners or medical inhalers to control the release of aerosols.

Problems Solved: - The device solves the problem of inefficient aerosol generation by accurately identifying the type of article present. - It ensures optimal heating of the aerosol-generating article, leading to consistent aerosol production.

Benefits: - Improved efficiency in aerosol generation. - Enhanced user experience with controlled aerosol output. - Potential for customization based on the type of aerosol-generating article.

Commercial Applications: - The technology could be valuable in the e-cigarette industry, air care products sector, and pharmaceutical companies producing inhalation devices.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the device differentiate between different types of aerosol-generating articles? 2. What are the potential safety implications of using ultrasonic waves in this technology?

Original Abstract Submitted

An aerosol-generating device may include an accommodation space where an aerosol-generating article is accommodated, a heater configured to generate aerosol by heating the aerosol-generating article, a transducer configured to output ultrasonic waves toward the accommodation space, receive ultrasonic waves reflected from the accommodation space, and generate electric signals corresponding to the received ultrasonic waves, and a processor configured to determine a type of the aerosol-generating article accommodated in the accommodation space based on the electric signals generated by the transducer, and control an operation of the heater based on the determined type of the aerosol-generating article.
