APPARATUS FOR MEASURING IMPEDANCE OF FUEL CELL FOR VEHICLE AND METHOD THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17838542 titled 'APPARATUS FOR MEASURING IMPEDANCE OF FUEL CELL FOR VEHICLE AND METHOD THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an apparatus and method for measuring the impedance of a fuel cell in a system that uses a DC-DC converter. The method involves calculating the impedance of a fuel cell stack based on the impedance of the output terminal of the fuel cell stack measured in two different states: when the output of the fuel cell stack is being drawn and when the drawing of the output is stopped.

  • The invention measures the impedance of a fuel cell in a system with a DC-DC converter.
  • The impedance of the fuel cell stack is calculated based on measurements of the output terminal impedance in two different states.
  • The first state is when the output of the fuel cell stack is being drawn.
  • The second state is when the drawing of the output is stopped.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Fuel cell systems: The invention can be used in various fuel cell systems to accurately measure the impedance of the fuel cell stack.
  • Energy conversion systems: The technology can be applied in systems that use DC-DC converters to convert energy from fuel cells, such as in electric vehicles or power generation systems.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Accurate impedance measurement: The invention provides a method to accurately measure the impedance of a fuel cell stack in a system with a DC-DC converter.
  • Understanding fuel cell performance: By measuring the impedance, the technology can help in evaluating the performance and efficiency of the fuel cell stack.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved system performance: Accurate impedance measurement can help optimize the operation of the fuel cell system and improve its overall performance.
  • Enhanced fuel cell diagnostics: The technology enables better understanding of the fuel cell stack's behavior and can aid in diagnosing any issues or abnormalities.
  • Cost-effective solution: The method described in the patent application provides a cost-effective way to measure the impedance of a fuel cell stack in a system with a DC-DC converter.

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed are an apparatus for measuring an impedance of a fuel cell in a system to which a DC-DC converter is applied and a method thereof. The method includes calculating an impedance of a fuel cell stack based on an impedance of an output terminal of the fuel cell stack measured in a state in which the output of the fuel cell stack is drawn and the impedance of the output terminal of the fuel cell stack measured in a state in which the drawing of the output of the fuel cell stack is stopped.
