POWER CONTROL FOR A DECODER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17815254 titled 'POWER CONTROL FOR A DECODER

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application for systems and methods for power control in a decoder. The decoder is used in a communication bus and is put into a sleep or low power mode when the bus is idle, such as when blanking information is sent over a camera serial interface (CSI) bus. By alerting the decoder about the opportunity for low power operation, power consumption can be reduced, improving the user experience and potentially extending the time between recharges for battery-operated mobile devices.

  • The patent application is for a power control system and method for a decoder used in a communication bus.
  • The decoder is put into a sleep or low power mode when the bus is idle, specifically when blanking information is sent over a CSI bus.
  • The decoder is alerted about the opportunity for low power operation, allowing for reduced power consumption.
  • This innovation is particularly beneficial for battery-operated mobile devices, as it improves the time to recharge metric and enhances the user experience.

Potential Applications:

  • Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets that use a decoder in a communication bus.
  • Cameras and other imaging devices that utilize a camera serial interface (CSI) bus.
  • Any device or system that requires power control for a decoder in a communication bus.

Problems Solved:

  • Power consumption during idle periods of a communication bus.
  • Limited battery life in mobile devices.
  • Inefficient use of power in decoders.

Benefits:

  • Reduced power consumption during idle periods, leading to improved battery life.
  • Enhanced user experience with longer time between recharges for mobile devices.
  • More efficient use of power in decoders, optimizing overall system performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems and method for power control for a decoder are disclosed. In one aspect, a decoder for a communication bus is put into a sleep or low power mode when the bus is idle such as when blanking information is sent over a camera serial interface (CSI) bus. By alerting the decoder that there is an opportunity for low power operation, power consumption may be reduced and, particularly for battery operated mobile devices, a time to recharge metric may be improved, which improves the user experience.
