POWER OPTIMIZATION FOR SMARTWATCH - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17809169 titled 'POWER OPTIMIZATION FOR SMARTWATCH
Simplified Explanation
The abstract describes a patent application for improving power usage of a wireless device. The device includes a memory and at least one processor. The processor is configured to perform several functions to optimize power consumption:
- Determine changes in ambient light received by the device.
- Determine the position of the device.
- Activate a low power image sensor based on the change in ambient light or the position of the device.
- Use the low power image sensor to detect a face.
- Turn on the display of the device if a user's face is detected.
Potential Applications
This technology can have various applications in wireless devices, including:
- Smartphones and tablets: The power usage optimization can enhance battery life and improve user experience.
- Security systems: The low power image sensor can be used to detect faces for authentication or surveillance purposes.
- Internet of Things (IoT) devices: Power efficiency is crucial for IoT devices, and this technology can help conserve energy.
Problems Solved
The technology addresses the following problems:
- Power consumption: By activating the image sensor only when necessary, power usage is optimized, leading to longer battery life.
- User convenience: The device automatically turns on the display when a user's face is detected, providing a seamless and convenient experience.
- Energy efficiency: The technology contributes to reducing energy consumption, which is important for sustainability and environmental concerns.
Benefits
The benefits of this technology include:
- Extended battery life: By intelligently managing power usage, the device can operate for longer periods without requiring frequent charging.
- Enhanced user experience: The device can quickly and automatically turn on the display when a user's face is detected, improving convenience and usability.
- Energy conservation: By minimizing unnecessary power consumption, the technology promotes energy efficiency and reduces environmental impact.
Original Abstract Submitted
Systems and methods for improving power usage of a wireless device are disclosed. The wireless device includes a memory; and at least one processor communicatively coupled to the memory, the at least one processor configured to: determine a change in ambient light received by the wireless device; determine a position of the wireless device; activate a low power image sensor based on at least one of the change in the ambient light or the position of the wireless device; detect a face using the low power image sensor; and turn on a display of the wireless device based on a user face being the face detected.
