UNIVERSAL INTEGRATED CIRCUIT CARD (UICC) SERVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17798292 titled 'UNIVERSAL INTEGRATED CIRCUIT CARD (UICC) SERVICE

Simplified Explanation

Abstract Explanation

The abstract describes a method for maintaining network service for a mobile device that supports hot swapping of integrated circuit cards. When a polling error occurs due to a universal integrated circuit card (UICC), the method reads the current integrated circuit card identification (ICCID) value. It then compares this value to a cached ICCID value captured during UICC initialization. If the current ICCID value matches the cached ICCID value, the method maintains the current state of the UICC.

  • The method is used to maintain network service for a mobile device that supports hot swapping of integrated circuit cards.
  • It reads the current ICCID value when a polling error occurs due to a UICC.
  • It compares the current ICCID value to a cached ICCID value captured during UICC initialization.
  • If the current ICCID value matches the cached ICCID value, the method maintains the current state of the UICC.

Potential Applications

  • Mobile devices that support hot swapping of integrated circuit cards.
  • Network service maintenance for mobile devices.
  • Universal integrated circuit card (UICC) initialization.

Problems Solved

  • Ensures network service is maintained for mobile devices even when a polling error occurs due to a UICC.
  • Allows for hot swapping of integrated circuit cards without interrupting network service.
  • Helps in maintaining the current state of the UICC during network service maintenance.

Benefits

  • Seamless network service maintenance for mobile devices.
  • Improved user experience with uninterrupted network connectivity.
  • Efficient management of integrated circuit cards in mobile devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method to maintain network service for a mobile equipment includes reading a current integrated circuit card identification (ICCID) value when the mobile equipment supports a hot swap function and a remove interrupt is not triggered by hardware in response to a polling error triggered by a universal integrated circuit card (UICC). The method also includes comparing the current ICCID value to a cached ICCID value captured during a UICC initialization. The method further includes maintaining a current state of the UICC when the current ICCID value matches the cached ICCID value.
