FOLDABLE PEDAL APPARATUS FOR VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17699937 titled 'FOLDABLE PEDAL APPARATUS FOR VEHICLE
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes a foldable pedal apparatus for a vehicle that can be used in both manual and autonomous driving modes. Here are the key points:
- The pedal apparatus includes pedal assemblies with pedal arms and pedal pads.
- In manual driving mode, the pedal assemblies rotate rearwards and pop up to the driver, allowing direct operation of the vehicle.
- In autonomous driving mode, the pedal assemblies rotate forwards and upwards, hiding them close to the front surface of a footrest panel.
- This hidden state interrupts the exposure of the pedal assemblies to the driver, preventing accidental operation in autonomous driving situations.
Potential Applications
- Automotive industry: The foldable pedal apparatus can be used in various types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles.
Problems Solved
- Accidental pedal operation: The foldable pedal apparatus prevents unintended pedal operation by hiding the pedal assemblies in autonomous driving mode.
Benefits
- Safety: By hiding the pedal assemblies in autonomous driving mode, the risk of accidental pedal operation is minimized, enhancing overall safety.
- Versatility: The foldable pedal apparatus allows for seamless transition between manual and autonomous driving modes, providing flexibility to the driver.
Original Abstract Submitted
A foldable pedal apparatus for a vehicle includes pedal assemblies including pedal arms and pedal pads that are rotated rearwards and are thus popped up to a driver so as to be operated by the driver in a manual driving mode in which the driver directly drives a vehicle. Also, the pedal assemblies including the pedal arms and the pedal pads may be rotated forwards and upwards, so as to be located close to a front surface of a footrest panel and thus enter a hidden state in which exposure of the pedal assemblies to the driver is interrupted so as not to be operated by the driver in an autonomous driving situation.
