UE-DRIVEN PACKET FLOW DESCRIPTION MANAGEMENT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17484964 titled 'UE-DRIVEN PACKET FLOW DESCRIPTION MANAGEMENT

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure describes a method for managing packet flow description (PFD) in a network. Here are the key points:

  • The method involves establishing a Quality-of-Service (QoS) flow between a user equipment (UE) and a core network (CN) for a data flow of an application.
  • When there is a change in the data flow, the UE creates a UE-requested PFD.
  • The UE then sends a request to the CN, asking for an update to the CN PFD using the UE-requested PFD.
  • The CN updates the PFD to an updated version based on the request from the UE.
  • Finally, the UE receives a downlink (DL) packet mapped to the QoS flow using the updated PFD.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This method can be used in mobile networks to manage packet flow description for different applications.
  • It can help in optimizing the quality of service for data flows between user equipment and core networks.
  • The method can be applied in various industries that rely on efficient data flow management, such as telecommunications, IoT, and cloud computing.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The method addresses the need for efficient management of packet flow description in networks.
  • It allows for dynamic updates to the PFD based on changes in data flow, ensuring optimal QoS.
  • The method simplifies the process of requesting and updating PFDs between user equipment and core networks.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The method improves the overall performance and efficiency of data flows in networks.
  • It enables better control and management of QoS for different applications.
  • The dynamic updating of PFDs ensures that the network can adapt to changing data flow requirements.

Original Abstract Submitted

In some aspects, the present disclosure relates to a method for performing packet flow description (PFD) management, the method including establishing a Quality-of-Service (QoS) flow between a user equipment (UE) and a core network (CN) for a data flow of an application, creating, by the UE, a UE-requested packet flow description (PFD) upon a change in the data flow, sending, from the UE to the CN, a request to the CN for updating a CN PFD to an updated PFD using the UE-requested PFD, receiving, at the UE from the CN, a downlink (DL) packet mapped to the QoS flow using the updated PFD.
