VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE, VEHICLE CONTROL METHOD AND PROGRAM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240336265 titled 'VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE, VEHICLE CONTROL METHOD AND PROGRAM

The patent application describes a vehicle control device that enables the automatic execution of lane change assist control to prevent interference with rear vehicles while changing lanes.

  • The device calculates the relative distance and speed between the own vehicle and a rear vehicle, shortening the time from establishing the conditions for lane change to the actual lane change.
  • It prioritizes lane changes when the relative distance is shorter, the speed of the rear vehicle is higher than the own vehicle, and the relative speed is larger.

Potential Applications: - Automotive industry for advanced driver assistance systems - Transportation sector for improving road safety and traffic flow

Problems Solved: - Minimizing the risk of rear vehicle interference during lane changes - Enhancing the efficiency and safety of lane change maneuvers

Benefits: - Reduced chances of accidents during lane changes - Improved overall driving experience for vehicle occupants

Commercial Applications: - Integration into autonomous vehicles for enhanced safety features - Implementation in fleet management systems for better control and monitoring

Prior Art: Research on lane change assist systems in vehicles and related patents in the field of automotive technology.

Frequently Updated Research: Ongoing studies on lane change assist technologies and their impact on road safety and traffic management.

Questions about Lane Change Assist Control: 1. How does the device determine the optimal timing for executing a lane change?

The device considers the relative distance, speed, and relative speed between the own vehicle and the rear vehicle to determine the optimal timing for a lane change.

2. What are the key factors that influence the prioritization of lane changes by the device?

The device prioritizes lane changes based on a combination of shorter relative distance, higher speed of the rear vehicle, and larger relative speed.

Original Abstract Submitted

to effectively prevent the traveling of the rear vehicles from being interfered by lca of the own vehicle, provided is a vehicle control device configured to execute a lane change assist control for automatically changing a lane from a lane traveling on a own vehicle to a target lane adjacent to the lane. the vehicle control device is configured to obtain a relative distance and a relative speed between the own vehicle and a rear vehicle traveling behind the one vehicle, and shorten the time from the establishment of the specific condition for permitting the execution of the lane change assist control to the start of the lane change, when the relative distance is shorter and/or a speed of the rear vehicle is higher than a speed of the own vehicle and the relative speed is larger.
