METHODS AND DEVICES RELATED TO EXPERIENCE-APPROPRIATE EXTENDED REALITY NOTIFICATIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240320489 titled 'METHODS AND DEVICES RELATED TO EXPERIENCE-APPROPRIATE EXTENDED REALITY NOTIFICATIONS

The abstract describes a computer-implemented method for determining extended reality (XR) notification types using a machine learning model to deliver notifications of events to users.

  • User information, including characteristics and relationships data, is received.
  • Event information, including event type data, is received.
  • Recommended notification types and predicted emotional states for each type are determined using a machine learning model.
  • Local preferences information for the user, including preferences for notification types, event types, and emotional states, is received.
  • The notification type is selected by comparing predicted emotional states and local preferences.
  • The notification of the event is delivered to the user using the selected notification type.

Potential Applications: - Personalized notifications for events in extended reality experiences. - Improving user engagement and satisfaction in XR environments.

Problems Solved: - Enhancing user experience by delivering notifications tailored to individual preferences. - Increasing user interaction with XR content through personalized notifications.

Benefits: - Improved user satisfaction and engagement. - Enhanced user experience in extended reality environments.

Commercial Applications: Title: Personalized Extended Reality Notification System This technology can be utilized in XR applications such as gaming, virtual events, training simulations, and virtual tours to enhance user experience and engagement. It can also be integrated into marketing campaigns to deliver personalized notifications to users in XR environments, increasing brand interaction and customer satisfaction.

Original Abstract Submitted

a computer-implemented method (500) for determining, using a machine learning (ml) model, extended reality (xr) notification types for delivering notification of an event to a user is provided. the method includes receiving user information, wherein the user information includes user characteristics and relationships data; receiving event information, wherein the event information includes event type data; determining, using a machine learning (ml) model, recommended notification types for delivering notification of the event to the user and, for each recommended notification type, predicted emotional state information including a predicted emotional state of the user and a rating; receiving local preferences information for the user, wherein the local preferences information includes one or more of local preferences for different notification types, different event types, and different wanted emotional states; selecting the notification type for delivering the notification of the event to the user by comparing, for each recommended notification type, the predicted emotional state information and the local preferences information; and delivering the notification of the event to the user using the selected notification type.
