BATTERY PACK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240322334 titled 'BATTERY PACK

The patent application describes a battery pack with a housing frame and an insulating frame that includes an opening for the battery cell.

  • The insulating frame has a flange portion that faces the bottom of the battery cell and a side portion that faces the side surface of the battery cell.
  • The flange portion of the insulating frame includes a convex pattern that protrudes toward the bottom of the battery cell.
  • A flow channel in the insulating frame forms a flow path for an adhesive, allowing for secure attachment of the battery cell to the housing frame.
  • The flow channel is a stepped portion stepped down from the convex pattern in a vertical direction opposite to the bottom of the battery cell.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in various electronic devices that require battery packs, such as smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles. - It can also be applied in renewable energy storage systems and portable power banks.

Problems Solved: - Provides a secure and efficient way to attach a battery cell to a housing frame in a battery pack. - Ensures proper insulation between the battery cell and the housing frame to prevent short circuits.

Benefits: - Enhanced safety and reliability of battery packs. - Simplified manufacturing process for battery packs. - Improved durability and longevity of electronic devices using this technology.

Commercial Applications: - Manufacturers of electronic devices and electric vehicles can incorporate this technology to enhance the performance and safety of their products.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the convex pattern in the insulating frame improve the attachment of the battery cell to the housing frame? 2. What are the potential cost implications of implementing this technology in battery pack manufacturing processes?

Original Abstract Submitted

a battery pack includes a housing frame to accommodate a battery cell; and an insulating frame between the battery cell and the housing frame, and including an opening through which a bottom of the battery cell is exposed to a bottom of the housing frame, a flange portion that extends along a periphery of the opening, defines the opening, and faces the bottom of the battery cell, and a side portion that is bent from the flange portion and faces a side surface of the battery cell, wherein the flange portion of the insulating frame includes a convex pattern that protrudes toward the bottom of the battery cell, and a flow channel that forms a flow path for an adhesive, the flow channel being a stepped portion stepped down from the convex pattern in a vertical direction opposite to the bottom of the battery cell.
