APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR HANDOVER IN NETWORK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240340755 titled 'APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR HANDOVER IN NETWORK

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a method for a second base station in a 5G or 6G communication system to facilitate a seamless handover of a user equipment (UE) from a first base station to the second base station without the need for a random access channel (RACH).

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Method for performing a RACH-less handover of a UE between base stations.
  • Obtaining a conditional handover configuration and determining a RACH-less uplink grant configuration.
  • Transmitting the RACH-less uplink grant to the first base station and monitoring for UE transmissions or PDCCH assignments based on the handover configuration.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in advanced 5G and future 6G networks to improve handover efficiency and support higher data transmission rates.

Problems Solved: The method addresses the challenge of seamless handovers between base stations in high-speed communication networks without the need for RACH, enhancing overall network performance.

Benefits:

  • Improved handover efficiency.
  • Enhanced data transmission rates.
  • Seamless connectivity for UEs in advanced communication systems.

Commercial Applications: Commercial applications include telecommunications companies, network equipment manufacturers, and providers of high-speed data services looking to optimize handover processes in advanced communication networks.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior art related to RACH-less handovers in 5G and 6G communication systems, focusing on methods to enhance network efficiency during UE transitions between base stations.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on the latest advancements in RACH-less handover technologies in 5G and 6G networks to understand the evolving landscape of seamless connectivity solutions.

Questions about RACH-less Handover Technology: 1. How does the RACH-less handover method improve network efficiency compared to traditional handover approaches? 2. What are the key considerations for implementing RACH-less handovers in real-world 5G and 6G networks?

Original Abstract Submitted

the disclosure relates to a 5g or 6g communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. there is disclosed a method, for a second base station in a network comprising a user equipment (ue), a first base station, and the second base station. the method is for performing random access channel (rach)-less handover of the ue from the first base station to the second base station. the method comprises: obtaining a conditional handover (cho) configuration (e.g., execution condition); determining a rach-less uplink (ul) grant configuration; transmitting, to the first base station, the rach-less ul grant (e.g., in a handover request ack message); and monitoring for ul rach-less transmissions from the ue (e.g., a rrcconnectionreconfigurationcomplete message) or scheduling physical downlink control channel (pdcch) assignments to the ue, based on the cho configuration.
