DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240215415 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

The display device described in the patent application includes two types of light-emitting elements that operate in different modes, along with a base substrate and encapsulation layer.

  • First light-emitting elements are activated in one mode and deactivated in another, while second light-emitting elements are active in both modes.
  • The base substrate is divided into two regions: one for the first light-emitting elements and one for the second.
  • A light-blocking pattern is used to control the light emitted by the elements, with a cover layer and additional light-blocking pattern on top.
  • The cover layer may be thicker than the encapsulation layer, providing additional protection and functionality.

Potential Applications: - This technology could be used in various display devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and TVs. - It may also have applications in automotive displays, wearable technology, and augmented reality devices.

Problems Solved: - The technology allows for more precise control over the light emitted by different elements. - It provides a more efficient and versatile display solution compared to traditional methods.

Benefits: - Improved display quality and energy efficiency. - Enhanced functionality and design possibilities for display devices.

Commercial Applications: - The technology could be valuable for consumer electronics manufacturers looking to enhance their products' display capabilities. - It may also be of interest to companies developing cutting-edge display technologies for various industries.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the thickness of the cover layer impact the performance of the display device? 2. What are the specific advantages of having two types of light-emitting elements in the same device?

Original Abstract Submitted

provided is a display device including first light-emitting elements activated in a first operation mode and deactivated in a second operation mode, second light-emitting elements activated in the first and second operation modes, a base substrate including a first region having a first light-emitting region where the first light-emitting elements are disposed and a first non-light-emitting region, and a second region adjacent to the first region and having a second light-emitting region where the second light-emitting elements are disposed and a second non-light-emitting region, an encapsulation layer disposed on the base substrate, a first light-blocking pattern not overlapping the first region and overlapping the second non-light-emitting region, a cover layer covering the first light-blocking pattern, and a second light-blocking pattern disposed on the cover layer and overlapping the first light-blocking pattern, wherein the thickness of the cover layer may be greater than the thickness of the encapsulation layer.
