DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240290919 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

The patent application describes a display device with various components such as pad electrodes, side lines, insulating layers, encapsulation layers, and seal members.

  • The display device includes a substrate with an active area for subpixels and a non-active area around it.
  • First pad electrodes are on the front surface, and second pad electrodes are on the rear surface of the substrate.
  • Side lines connect the pad electrodes on different surfaces of the substrate.
  • A side insulating layer with a black material surrounds the side lines.
  • An encapsulation layer covers the front, rear, and side surfaces of the substrate.
  • A seal member surrounds part of the encapsulation layer.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in various types of display devices such as smartphones, tablets, and televisions. - It can also be applied in automotive displays, wearable technology, and augmented reality devices.

Problems Solved: - The technology helps improve the electrical connections within the display device. - It enhances the durability and longevity of the display by providing protection from external elements.

Benefits: - Enhanced display performance and reliability. - Improved structural integrity and longevity of the device. - Better overall user experience with high-quality visuals.

Commercial Applications: - Manufacturers of electronic devices can utilize this technology to enhance the quality and durability of their displays. - Companies in the consumer electronics industry can benefit from incorporating this innovation into their products to stay competitive in the market.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the side insulating layer with a black material contribute to the functionality of the display device? 2. What are the specific advantages of having first and second pad electrodes on different surfaces of the substrate?

Original Abstract Submitted

a display device may include a substrate; an active area in which the plurality of sub pixels is disposed; a non-active area which surrounds the active area; a plurality of first pad electrodes disposed in the non-active area on a front surface of the substrate; a plurality of second pad electrodes disposed in the non-active area on a rear surface of the substrate; a plurality of side lines disposed on the front surface, the rear surface, and a side surface of the substrate to electrically connect the plurality of first pad electrodes and the plurality of second pad electrodes; a side insulating layer surrounding the plurality of side lines and including a black material; an encapsulation layer surrounding the front surface, the rear surface, and the side surface of the substrate; and a seal member surrounding a part of the encapsulation layer.
