TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240310840 titled 'TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM

The abstract of the patent application describes a system that includes autonomous vehicles, interconnected roadways, and a management system. The vehicles are designed to cooperate with each other or with an area controller, and the management system receives requests for transportation and assigns vehicles to fulfill those requests.

  • Autonomous vehicles that can cooperate with each other or with an area controller
  • Interconnected roadways for the vehicles to travel on
  • Management system that receives transportation requests and assigns vehicles to fulfill them
  • Vehicles transport individuals from start points to destinations via the interconnected roadways

Potential Applications: - Urban transportation systems - Ride-sharing services - Autonomous delivery services

Problems Solved: - Efficient transportation of individuals within a city - Reduction of traffic congestion - Improved coordination of autonomous vehicles

Benefits: - Increased convenience for passengers - Reduced carbon emissions - Enhanced traffic flow in urban areas

Commercial Applications: Title: "Autonomous Urban Transportation System" This technology could be used by ride-sharing companies, delivery services, and public transportation authorities to improve the efficiency and reliability of urban transportation systems.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the management system assign vehicles to fulfill transportation requests? The management system assigns vehicles based on factors such as proximity to the start point, availability, and traffic conditions. 2. What safety measures are in place to ensure the smooth operation of the autonomous vehicles on the interconnected roadways? Safety measures include collision avoidance systems, real-time monitoring of vehicle performance, and emergency protocols.

Original Abstract Submitted

a system includes at least partially autonomous vehicles, at least partially separated interconnected roadways, and a management system. each of the vehicles is configured to cooperate with another vehicle or an area controller. the management system is configured to receive requests to transport, which may have respective start points and respective destinations. additionally, the management system is configured, responsive to receiving the request, to assign a vehicle to fulfill the request. the assigned vehicle is configured to transport a person from the respective start point, at least in part via the interconnected roadways, to the respective destination.
