IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240319658 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

The image forming apparatus described in the patent application includes an exposure unit that exposes a photoconductor, and an exposure support member that detachably supports the exposure unit and moves integrally with it in a first direction orthogonal to the axial direction of the photoconductor.

  • The exposure unit has a first engagement portion that protrudes towards the exposure support member and extends in the axial direction of the photoconductor.
  • The exposure support member has a second engagement portion that engages with the first engagement portion of the exposure unit.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in various types of image forming devices such as printers, copiers, and scanners. - It can also be applied in industrial printing and large format printing machines.

Problems Solved: - Simplifies the process of replacing and maintaining the exposure unit in image forming devices. - Enhances the stability and efficiency of the exposure unit during operation.

Benefits: - Improved ease of maintenance and replacement of components. - Increased reliability and longevity of image forming devices. - Enhanced overall performance and quality of printed materials.

Commercial Applications: Commercial applications of this technology include the manufacturing and sale of image forming devices for both personal and professional use. The innovation can lead to cost savings for businesses through reduced maintenance and downtime.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the detachable support of the exposure unit improve the functionality of the image forming apparatus? 2. What are the potential cost-saving benefits for businesses implementing this technology?

Frequently Updated Research: Ongoing research related to this technology may focus on further optimizing the design of the exposure unit and support member for increased efficiency and durability in image forming devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

an image forming apparatus includes an exposure unit that exposes a photoconductor; and an exposure support member that includes a support portion that detachably supports the exposure unit and is moved integrally with the exposure unit in a first direction orthogonal to an axial direction of the photoconductor, wherein the exposure unit includes a first engagement portion that is formed on an opposing portion facing the support portion of the exposure support member in the first direction so as to protrude toward the exposure support member and further formed to extend in the axial direction of the photoconductor orthogonal to a protruding direction, the exposure support member includes a second engagement portion that is formed on the support portion facing the exposure unit at a position corresponding to the first engagement portion and engages with the first engagement portion.
