IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240241464 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

The image forming apparatus described in the patent application includes various components such as a photosensitive drum, charging members, a development member, and charging voltage applying units.

  • The photosensitive drum has a surface layer with a specific volume resistivity range.
  • The second charging voltage applying unit applies a second charging voltage to the second charging member.
  • The second charging voltage is applied to create a specific potential difference between the second charging member and the surface of the photosensitive drum.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in various types of printers and copiers to improve image quality and efficiency.

Problems Solved: - The technology addresses issues related to charging and developing images on the photosensitive drum.

Benefits: - Improved image quality and consistency in printing and copying processes. - Enhanced durability and longevity of the photosensitive drum.

Commercial Applications: - This technology can be applied in the manufacturing of printers, copiers, and other imaging devices for commercial use.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the specific volume resistivity range of the surface layer of the photosensitive drum impact image formation? 2. What are the advantages of applying a second charging voltage to the second charging member in the image forming process?

Original Abstract Submitted

an image forming apparatus includes a photosensitive drum, first and second charging members, a development member, and first and second charging voltage applying units. the photosensitive drum includes a surface layer constituting a surface of the photosensitive drum. the second charging voltage applying unit applies a second charging voltage to the second charging member. the surface layer of the photosensitive drum has a volume resistivity of 1.0109 ohm centimeters (cm) or more and 1.01014 cm or less. the second charging voltage applying unit applies the second charging voltage such that a second potential difference formed between the second charging member and the surface of the photosensitive drum charged by the first charging member is equal to or higher than a discharge starting voltage.
