VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE FOR VEHICLE CAPABLE OF AUTONOMOUS DRIVING AND MANUAL DRIVING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18733663 titled 'VEHICLE CONTROL DEVICE FOR VEHICLE CAPABLE OF AUTONOMOUS DRIVING AND MANUAL DRIVING

The patent application describes a vehicle control device for a vehicle capable of autonomous and manual driving.

  • Surroundings information recognition unit acquires left and right lane boundaries and recognizes surroundings.
  • Notification unit provides a hands-on request notification for switching states.
  • Control determination unit decides vehicle controls based on surroundings information.
  • Control determination unit continues hands-off state if lane boundaries are parallel.
  • Control determination unit provides hands-on request notification if lane boundaries are not parallel.

Potential Applications: - Autonomous driving systems - Vehicle safety technology - Advanced driver assistance systems

Problems Solved: - Enhancing vehicle control in autonomous and manual driving modes - Improving driver awareness and safety

Benefits: - Increased safety on the road - Seamless transition between autonomous and manual driving modes - Enhanced driver assistance features

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Vehicle Control System for Autonomous Driving This technology can be utilized in the automotive industry for the development of advanced autonomous driving systems, enhancing vehicle safety and driver assistance features.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the control determination unit differentiate between parallel and non-parallel lane boundaries?

The control determination unit uses sensor data to analyze the alignment of the lane boundaries and make a decision based on the angle between them.

2. What are the key advantages of having a notification unit for hands-on requests in the vehicle control device?

The notification unit ensures that the driver is aware of when manual intervention is required, improving overall safety and control.

Original Abstract Submitted

A vehicle control device for a vehicle capable of autonomous driving and manual driving includes a surroundings information recognition unit configured to acquire, in a direction of travel of the vehicle, left and right lane boundaries of a lane, and recognizes information about surroundings of the vehicle, a notification unit configured to provide a notification of a hands-on request for switching from a hands-off state to a hands-on state, and a control determination unit configured to determine controls for the vehicle according to a result of recognition by the surroundings information recognition unit. The control determination unit is configured to determine the control to continue the hands-off state when the left and right lane boundaries are parallel in the hands-off state, and determine the control to provide a notification of the hands-on request when the left and right lane boundaries are not parallel in the hands-off state.
