Knife - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18675628 titled 'Knife

The abstract describes a folding knife with a handle, pivot axis, and blade with a cutting edge. The blade can pivot between a retracted and extended position, exposing the cutting edge when extended and retracting into the handle when not in use. A bearing assembly facilitates the movement of the blade.

  • Handle, pivot axis, and blade with cutting edge
  • Blade pivots between retracted and extended positions
  • Cutting edge exposed in extended position
  • Blade retracts into handle when not in use
  • Bearing assembly aids blade movement

Potential Applications: - Everyday carry tool - Camping and outdoor activities - Emergency situations

Problems Solved: - Convenient storage and carrying of a sharp blade - Safety by retracting the blade when not in use

The bearing assembly allows for smooth movement of the blade between the retracted and extended positions, enhancing the overall usability of the knife.

2. What materials are commonly used in manufacturing folding knives to ensure durability and longevity?

Folding knives are often made from high-quality stainless steel for the blade and handle, ensuring durability and resistance to corrosion.

Original Abstract Submitted

A folding knife including a handle, a pivot axis, and a blade having a cutting edge. The blade is pivotably coupled to the handle such that the blade is pivotable relative to the handle about the pivot axis between a retracted position and an extended position. The cutting edge is exposed in the extended position and a portion of the blade is received within the handle in the retracted position. The folding knife further includes a bearing assembly for facilitating movement of the blade between the retracted position and the extended position. The bearing assembly includes a first bearing recessed within the blade and a second bearing recessed within the handle.
