ELECTRONIC DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18668524 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE

The abstract of this patent application describes an electronic device with a display panel, light-blocking elements, and a hole surrounded by the active region of the display panel.

  • The electronic device includes a display panel with an active region and a peripheral region, an electronic module below the display panel, a first light-blocking element on the display panel, and a second light-blocking element on the electronic module.
  • A hole is defined in a portion of the display panel, partially surrounded by the active region, with the second light-blocking element adjacent to the hole.
  • The first light-blocking element is thicker than the second light-blocking element, providing effective light blocking in the device.

Potential Applications:

  • This technology could be used in electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops to improve display performance in various lighting conditions.
  • It could also be applied in automotive displays to enhance visibility and reduce glare for drivers.

Problems Solved:

  • Addresses issues related to light leakage and glare on display panels, improving overall user experience and visibility.
  • Enhances the contrast and clarity of images displayed on electronic devices.

Benefits:

  • Improved display performance in different lighting environments.
  • Enhanced visibility and reduced glare for users.
  • Better image quality and overall user experience.

Commercial Applications:

  • This technology could be valuable for manufacturers of electronic devices looking to enhance display quality and user experience, potentially leading to increased sales and customer satisfaction.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the thickness of the light-blocking elements impact the performance of the display panel? 2. What are the specific advantages of having a hole surrounded by the active region of the display panel?

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device includes: a display panel having an active region and a peripheral region adjacent to the active region; an electronic module disposed below the display panel; a first light-blocking element disposed on the display panel and overlapping the peripheral region; and a second light-blocking element disposed on the electronic module with the display panel interposed therebetween. A hole is at least partially surrounded by the active region is defined in a portion of the display panel. The second light blocking element is disposed in an area adjacent to the hole, when viewed in a plan view. The first light-blocking element has a first thickness and the second light-blocking element has a second thickness less than the first thickness.
