LENS BARREL AND IMAGE PICKUP APPARATUS HAVING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18605970 titled 'LENS BARREL AND IMAGE PICKUP APPARATUS HAVING THE SAME
The abstract of this patent application describes a lens barrel with holding members for lens units, a transmission member, a driving unit, a processor, and an output unit to control and output information about the position of the holding members. The lens units have overlapping moving ranges in the optical axis direction, and the second holding member includes a biasing member. The lens barrel has two states - one for restricting driving of the driving unit and one for permitting it. The processor determines the state of the lens barrel based on the output from the output unit.

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Lens Barrel Technology for Precision Optics This technology can be used in high-end cameras, medical imaging equipment, and scientific instruments to improve image quality and focusing accuracy.
Questions about Lens Barrel Technology: 1. How does the biasing member in the second holding member contribute to the functionality of the lens barrel? The biasing member helps maintain the position of the lens units and ensures smooth movement in the optical axis direction.
2. What are the key advantages of having overlapping moving ranges for the lens units? Having overlapping moving ranges allows for seamless transitions between different focal lengths or magnifications, enhancing the overall performance of the lens barrel.
Original Abstract Submitted
A lens barrel includes first and second holding members configured to hold first and second lens units movable in an optical axis direction, a transmission member configured to move the second holding member in the optical axis direction, a driving unit configured to move the transmission member in the optical axis direction, a processor configured to control the driving unit, and a first output unit configured to output information about a position of the first holding member. Moving ranges of the first and second lens units overlap each other in the optical axis direction by a predetermined amount. The second holding member includes a biasing member. The lens barrel has a first state for restricting driving of the driving unit, and a second state for permitting driving of the driving unit. The processor determines whether the lens barrel is in the first or second state, using an output result from the first output unit.
