MOLDED ARTICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18578098 titled 'MOLDED ARTICLE
The abstract describes an injection molded closure article made from a composition blend of a linear polyolefin elastomer component and a neutralized ethylene acid copolymer resin component.
- The linear polyolefin elastomer component has a melt index ranging from 0.5 dg/min to 40 dg/min and a density from 0.850 g/cc to 0.910 g/cc.
- The neutralized ethylene acid copolymer resin component has a melt index ranging from 0.5 dg/min to 25 dg/min and is partially neutralized at a range of 20% to 70%.
- The molded closure article produced from this blend exhibits high gloss, low haze, high impact resistance, and high chemical resistance.
- The manufacturing process of the molded closure article involves using the specified composition blend.
Potential Applications: This technology can be used in the production of closures for various containers such as bottles, jars, and tubes.
Problems Solved: This technology addresses the need for closures that have a combination of high gloss, low haze, impact resistance, and chemical resistance.
Benefits: The molded closure articles produced using this composition blend offer superior aesthetics and durability, making them suitable for a wide range of packaging applications.
Commercial Applications: This technology can be applied in industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and household products for packaging solutions that require high-quality closures.
Questions about the technology: 1. How does the composition blend of linear polyolefin elastomer and neutralized ethylene acid copolymer resin contribute to the properties of the molded closure article? 2. What are the specific advantages of using this composition blend in comparison to traditional closure materials?
Original Abstract Submitted
An injection molded closure article comprising a composition blend of: (a) at least one substantially linear polyolefin elastomer component which has a melt index of, for example, from 0.5 dg/min to 40 dg/min and a density of, for example, from 0.850 g/cc to 0.910 g/cc; and (b) at least one neutralized ethylene acid copolymer resin component which has a melt index of, for example, from 0.5 dg/min to 25 dg/min, and is at least partially neutralized at a range of from 20% to 70% neutralization; a molded closure article produced from the above composition blend, wherein the molded closure article has a high gloss, low haze, high impact resistance, and high chemical resistance; and a process of manufacturing the above molded closure article.
