MODULAR VEHICLE FRAME FOR AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18574836 titled 'MODULAR VEHICLE FRAME FOR AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE

The present invention is a modular vehicle frame for an electric vehicle, consisting of extruded profiled beams with identical cross-sectional areas. These beams allow for the arrangement of various components such as an electric motor, steering system, cooler unit, and suspension system through frictional and interlocking connections.

  • Each profiled beam has a main direction of extension and at least three channels formed by projections within the beam.
  • The channels have central axes along the main direction of extension, defining a mounting plane.
  • The frame includes fastening units designed to secure the beams orthogonally to the main direction of extension or in the mounting plane.

Potential Applications: - Electric vehicle manufacturing - Automotive industry for lightweight and customizable vehicle frames

Problems Solved: - Simplifies assembly of electric vehicles - Provides a versatile platform for integrating various components

Benefits: - Enhanced structural integrity - Ease of component installation and replacement - Customizable design options for different vehicle models

Commercial Applications: "Modular Vehicle Frame for Electric Vehicles: Revolutionizing the Automotive Industry"

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the modular design of the frame contribute to the overall performance of the electric vehicle? 2. What are the potential cost savings associated with using a modular vehicle frame in electric vehicle production?

Original Abstract Submitted

The present invention relates to a modular vehicle frame () for an electric vehicle, comprising a plurality of extruded profiled beams (), which have, at least in portions, a substantially identical cross-sectional area, wherein: at least one connecting element () for an electric motor (), a steering system (), a cooler unit and/or a suspension system () can be arranged on the plurality of profiled beams () by means of a frictional and/or interlocking connection; each profiled beam () has a main direction of extension (); each profiled beam () has at least three channels () along the main direction of extension () which are formed by at least two projections () within the profiled beam (); each channel () forms a central axis () along the main direction of extension (); a mounting plane is defined by the central axes (); and the modular vehicle frame () has at least one fastening unit () which is designed to fasten the profiled beams () substantially orthogonally to the main direction of extension (), or substantially orthogonally to the main direction of extension () in the mounting plane.
