CONNECTOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18563468 titled 'CONNECTOR

The abstract describes a connector with a housing, an inserting portion, and a first sealing member mounted on the inserting portion. The first sealing member includes a sealing body and an engaging portion with first and second engaging projections in overlapping positions in a Z-axis direction.

  • The first engaging projection extends more towards one side in a circumferential direction than the second engaging projection.
  • The second engaging projection extends more towards the other side in the circumferential direction than the first engaging projection.
  • An accommodation groove in the inserting portion includes a groove body and an engaged portion with first and second engaging grooves.

Potential Applications: - This connector design can be used in various electronic devices and systems that require secure sealing and connection.

Problems Solved: - Provides a reliable sealing mechanism for connectors to prevent dust, moisture, and other contaminants from entering the device.

Benefits: - Ensures a tight seal for connectors, increasing the longevity and reliability of electronic devices. - Simplifies the assembly process by providing clear engagement points for the sealing member.

Commercial Applications: - This connector design can be valuable in industries such as automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, and consumer electronics for ensuring secure connections and protection against environmental factors.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the design of the engaging projections contribute to the effectiveness of the sealing mechanism? 2. What are the potential cost implications of implementing this connector design in mass production?

Frequently Updated Research: - Stay updated on advancements in connector technology, materials science, and sealing mechanisms to enhance the performance of this connector design.

Original Abstract Submitted

A connector according to one aspect of the present disclosure is provided with a housing including an inserting portion and an annular first sealing member to be mounted on an outer peripheral surface of the inserting portion. The first sealing member includes a sealing body and an engaging portion having a first engaging projection and a second engaging projection. The first and second engaging projections are provided at positions overlapping each other in a Z-axis direction. The first engaging projection projects more toward one side in a circumferential direction than the second engaging projection. The second engaging projection projects more toward the other side in the circumferential direction than the first engaging projection. An accommodation groove provided in the outer peripheral surface of the inserting portion includes a groove body and an engaged portion having a first engaging groove and a second engaging groove.
