DRIVING ASSISTANCE DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18558225 titled 'DRIVING ASSISTANCE DEVICE

The patent application describes a driving assistance device that can execute steering control based on the situation in an adjacent lane.

  • The device includes sensors to gather information about the vehicle's surroundings.
  • A processor determines if the current situation is the principal vehicle overtaking another vehicle in the adjacent lane or being overtaken by that vehicle.
  • Steering control is then executed to drive the principal vehicle along a target track based on this determination.

Potential Applications: - Autonomous driving systems - Advanced driver assistance systems - Vehicle safety technologies

Problems Solved: - Enhancing driving safety by responding to situations in adjacent lanes - Improving overall driving experience by providing assistance in complex traffic scenarios

Benefits: - Reduced risk of accidents and collisions - Increased efficiency in lane-changing maneuvers - Enhanced driver confidence and comfort

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Driving Assistance System for Lane Control This technology can be utilized by automotive manufacturers to enhance the safety features of their vehicles, making them more attractive to consumers who prioritize safety and convenience. Additionally, it can be integrated into autonomous vehicles to improve their ability to navigate complex traffic situations.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the device differentiate between the first and second situations described in the patent application? The device uses the information gathered by the sensors to analyze the relative positions and movements of the vehicles in the adjacent lane, allowing it to determine whether the principal vehicle is overtaking or being overtaken.

2. What are the key components of the driving assistance device? The driving assistance device consists of sensors for acquiring vehicle surrounding information and a processor for executing determination processing and steering control based on the gathered data.

Original Abstract Submitted

An object of the present invention is to execute steering control depending on a situation in an adjacent lane. A driving assistance device according to the present invention includes: at least one sensor () configured to acquire vehicle surrounding information; and at least one processor configured to: execute determination processing of determining whether a current situation is a first situation or a second situation based on the vehicle surrounding information; and execute steering control for driving a principal vehicle along a target track (TL) based on a result of the determination processing. The first situation is a situation in which the principal vehicle overtakes a first other vehicle traveling in a first adjacent lane. The second situation is a situation in which the principal vehicle is overtaken by the first other vehicle traveling in the first adjacent lane.
