TRAVELING CONTROL APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18544230 titled 'TRAVELING CONTROL APPARATUS
The abstract describes a traveling control apparatus that allows for merging on a first vehicle traveling on a first lane or a second vehicle traveling on a second lane through wireless communication in a merging section. The apparatus includes a communication reliability determination unit and a processor. The determination unit assesses the communication reliabilities of the vehicles, and the processor executes traveling control based on these reliabilities.
- The traveling control apparatus enables merging of vehicles on different lanes through wireless communication.
- A communication reliability determination unit evaluates the communication reliabilities of the vehicles.
- The processor performs traveling control on the second vehicle if both vehicles have communication reliabilities equal to or higher than a predetermined threshold.
- If the communication reliability of the first vehicle is higher than the threshold and the second vehicle's reliability is lower, the processor controls the first vehicle.
- The apparatus enhances safety and efficiency in merging situations on the road.
Potential Applications: - Autonomous driving systems - Traffic management systems - Vehicle-to-vehicle communication technologies
Problems Solved: - Facilitating safe and efficient merging of vehicles on different lanes - Enhancing communication reliability in merging scenarios
Benefits: - Improved road safety - Enhanced traffic flow and efficiency - Reduced risk of accidents during merging
Commercial Applications: Title: "Wireless Merging Control System for Vehicles" This technology can be utilized in autonomous vehicles, smart transportation systems, and automotive safety applications. It has the potential to revolutionize the way vehicles merge on roads, leading to safer and more efficient traffic flow.
Questions about the technology: 1. How does the communication reliability determination unit assess the communication reliabilities of the vehicles? 2. What are the key factors that determine the predetermined reliability threshold for executing traveling control on the vehicles?
Original Abstract Submitted
A traveling control apparatus performs a traveling control allowing for merging on a first vehicle traveling on a first lane or a second vehicle traveling on a second lane by wireless communication in a merging section. The traveling control apparatus includes a communication reliability determination unit and a processor. The communication reliability determination unit determines respective communication reliabilities related to the first and the second vehicles. The processor performs the traveling control on the second vehicle when both the respective communication reliabilities related to the first and the second vehicles are higher than or equal to a predetermined reliability. The processor performs the traveling control on the first vehicle when the communication reliability related to the first vehicle is higher than or equal to the predetermined reliability and the communication reliability related to the second vehicle is lower than the predetermined reliability.
