VEHICLE OBJECT DETECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING A TARGET OBJECT IN A DETECTION AREA LOCATED BEHIND AND LATERAL OF A SUBJECT VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18482319 titled 'VEHICLE OBJECT DETECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING A TARGET OBJECT IN A DETECTION AREA LOCATED BEHIND AND LATERAL OF A SUBJECT VEHICLE
Simplified Explanation
The vehicle object detection system is designed to detect target objects located behind or lateral to a subject vehicle and determine if they are alert objects. The system then alerts the driver if an alert object is detected based on the position of other objects between the target object and the subject vehicle, as well as the time period during which the target object is detected.
- The system detects target objects behind or lateral to the subject vehicle.
- It determines if the target object is an alert object based on the position of other objects and the time period of detection.
Potential Applications
The technology can be applied in advanced driver assistance systems, collision avoidance systems, and autonomous vehicles.
Problems Solved
The system helps prevent collisions by alerting drivers to the presence of alert objects in their blind spots.
Benefits
Increased safety on the road, reduced accidents, and improved driver awareness.
Potential Commercial Applications
The technology can be utilized by automotive manufacturers, technology companies developing autonomous vehicles, and companies focused on road safety.
Possible Prior Art
Similar technologies exist in the form of blind spot detection systems and collision avoidance systems, but this specific combination of factors for determining alert objects may be unique.
Unanswered Questions
How does the system differentiate between different types of alert objects?
The system may need to be able to distinguish between different types of alert objects, such as pedestrians, vehicles, or obstacles.
What is the range of detection for the system?
It is important to know the maximum distance at which the system can accurately detect target objects to ensure its effectiveness in various driving scenarios.
Original Abstract Submitted
A vehicle object detection system for detecting a target object in a detection area located behind and/or lateral of a subject vehicle, that is configured to generate a judgement on whether a target object which has been detected in the detection area is an alert object, to output the judgement to warning means which is configured to output a warning to a driver of the subject vehicle based on the judgement indicating that the target object is an alert object, and to generate the judgement based on: one or more positions of one or more other objects other than the target object being detected to be located between the target object and the subject vehicle, and a time period during which the target object is detected, being smaller than a specified period of time.
