BATTERY PACK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18418722 titled 'BATTERY PACK

The abstract of the patent application describes a battery pack with a unique structure involving a battery cell, an electrode tab, a connection tab, and soldering material.

  • The battery pack includes a battery cell, an electrode tab, a connection tab, and soldering material.
  • The electrode tab extends from the battery cell in a first direction.
  • The connection tab overlaps and is bonded to the electrode tab.
  • The soldering material bonds the electrode tab to the connection tab.
  • The connection tab is made of a first metal material, while the electrode tab is made of a second metal material.
  • The soldering material forms a soldering bridge connecting the two metal materials.
  • The soldering bridge has two ends corresponding to thermal bonding points on the connection tab.
  • The soldering bridge extends across a portion of the electrode tab between the thermal bonding points.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in various battery pack designs for electronic devices. - It can improve the efficiency and reliability of battery connections in portable devices.

Problems Solved: - Provides a secure and efficient way to bond electrode tabs to connection tabs in battery packs. - Ensures a stable connection between different metal materials in the battery pack.

Benefits: - Enhanced durability and performance of battery packs. - Improved safety and stability in electronic devices using these battery packs.

Commercial Applications: - This technology can be applied in the manufacturing of smartphones, laptops, tablets, and other portable electronic devices. - Battery pack manufacturers can benefit from increased efficiency and reliability in their products.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the soldering bridge improve the connection between different metal materials in the battery pack? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology in mass production of battery packs?

Original Abstract Submitted

A battery pack includes a battery cell; an electrode tab extending from the battery cell in a first direction; a connection tab overlapping and bonded to the electrode tab; and a soldering material bonding the electrode tab to the connection tab, wherein the connection tab includes a first metal material and the electrode tab includes second metal material, the first metal material having an affinity to the soldering material that is different from an affinity of the second metal material to the soldering material, the soldering material forms a soldering bridge that has two ends respectively corresponding to first and second thermal bonding points to a portion of the connection tab exposed by the electrode tab, and the soldering bridge connects the first and second thermal bonding points to each other and extends across a portion of the electrode tab between the first and second thermal bonding points.
