CONTROL DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18408333 titled 'CONTROL DEVICE

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a control device for a turbocharger in an internal combustion engine, which includes a turbine and a compressor. The control unit regulates the turbine to maintain the boost pressure within a specified range, while calculation units determine the decrease in compressor efficiency and the allowable boost pressure based on the intake air amount.

  • The control device regulates the turbine to control the boost pressure of the turbocharger.
  • Calculation units determine the decrease in compressor efficiency and the allowable boost pressure based on intake air amount.
  • The innovation aims to optimize the performance of the turbocharger in the internal combustion engine.

Potential Applications: 1. Automotive industry for improving engine performance and fuel efficiency. 2. Industrial applications where turbochargers are used in power generation systems. 3. Marine engines to enhance power output and efficiency.

Problems Solved: 1. Inefficient turbocharger performance due to fluctuating boost pressure. 2. Lack of precise control over compressor efficiency in turbocharged engines.

Benefits: 1. Improved engine performance and efficiency. 2. Enhanced control over turbocharger operation. 3. Potential fuel savings in vehicles and industrial applications.

Commercial Applications: Optimizing Turbocharger Performance in Internal Combustion Engines

Questions about Turbocharger Control Device: 1. How does the control unit regulate the turbine to maintain boost pressure? 2. What are the key factors influencing the calculation of compressor efficiency and allowable boost pressure?

Original Abstract Submitted

As for a control device for a turbocharger including a turbine, disposed in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine, and a compressor, disposed in an intake passage of the internal combustion engine and driven by the turbine, the control device includes a control unit configured to control the turbine such that a boost pressure of the turbocharger in the intake passage becomes equal to or lower than an allowable value, a first calculation unit configured to calculate a decrease amount of a compressor efficiency of the compressor, and a second calculation unit configured to calculate the allowable value based on an intake air amount in the intake passage, in accordance with the decrease amount.
