METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PROCESSING VIDEO SIGNAL ON BASIS OF INTER PREDICTION - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18403248 titled 'METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PROCESSING VIDEO SIGNAL ON BASIS OF INTER PREDICTION
Simplified Explanation
The disclosure describes a method for processing a video signal based on inter prediction, including configuring a merge list, adding history-based merge candidates to the merge list, obtaining a merge index, and generating a prediction block based on motion information.
- Configuring a merge list based on a neighboring block of a current block
- Adding history-based merge candidates to the merge list when the number of merge candidates is below a predetermined threshold
- Obtaining a merge index indicating the merge candidate used for inter prediction
- Generating a prediction block based on motion information of the merge candidate indicated by the merge index
- Checking if history-based merge candidates have the same motion information as the merge candidate in the merge list
Potential Applications
This technology can be applied in video encoding and decoding systems, video streaming services, video surveillance systems, and video editing software.
Problems Solved
This technology helps improve the efficiency and accuracy of video compression and decompression processes, leading to better video quality and reduced file sizes.
Benefits
The benefits of this technology include enhanced video compression efficiency, improved video quality, reduced bandwidth requirements for video streaming, and better utilization of storage space.
Potential Commercial Applications
Potential commercial applications of this technology include video codec development, video processing software, video streaming platforms, and video surveillance systems.
Possible Prior Art
One possible prior art in this field is the use of motion estimation and compensation techniques in video compression standards like H.264 and H.265.
=== What are the specific parameters used to determine the merge candidates in the merge list? The specific parameters used to determine the merge candidates in the merge list include the number of merge candidates, the motion information of the candidates, and the history-based merge candidate list.
=== How does the method ensure that the history-based merge candidates have the same motion information as the merge candidate in the merge list? The method ensures that the history-based merge candidates have the same motion information as the merge candidate in the merge list by comparing the motion information of the candidates and checking if they match before adding them to the merge list.
Original Abstract Submitted
The disclosure discloses a method for processing a video signal and an apparatus therefor. Specifically, the method of processing a video signal based on an inter prediction, comprising: configuring a merge list based on a neighboring block of a current block; adding a history based merge candidate included in a history based merge candidate list to the merge list when a number of a merge candidate included in the merge list is smaller than a first predetermined number; obtaining a merge index indicating a merge candidate used for an inter prediction of the current block within the merge list; and generating a prediction block of the current block based on motion information of a merge candidate indicated by the merge index, wherein a step of adding the history based merge candidate to the merge list comprises checking whether a second predetermined number of the history based merge candidate within the history based merge candidate list has the same motion information as the merge candidate included in the merge list.
