DRIVING MODULE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18388455 titled 'DRIVING MODULE

The driving module described in the patent application consists of a housing that can rotate around a knuckle unit, a barrel unit that can also rotate within the housing, and two rotation input units supported by the knuckle unit. These rotation input units are connected to gear units that transmit rotation forces to either the housing or the barrel unit. A controller is used to independently control the rotations of the input units, allowing for selective rotation of the housing or barrel unit to enable movement of a vehicle in all directions.

  • The driving module includes a housing that can rotate around a knuckle unit.
  • A barrel unit is also present, which can rotate within the housing.
  • Two rotation input units are supported by the knuckle unit.
  • Gear units are engaged with the rotation input units to transmit rotation forces.
  • A controller is used to independently control the rotations of the input units.

Potential Applications: - This technology could be used in the development of advanced steering systems for vehicles. - It could also be applied in the design of robotic systems that require omnidirectional movement capabilities.

Problems Solved: - Enables vehicles to move in all directions with precision and control. - Provides a compact and efficient solution for achieving omnidirectional movement.

Benefits: - Improved maneuverability for vehicles in tight spaces. - Enhanced control and precision in steering systems. - Potential for innovative applications in robotics and automation.

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Steering Systems for Vehicles This technology could revolutionize the way vehicles navigate and maneuver, leading to safer and more efficient transportation systems. It could also open up opportunities for the development of new types of vehicles with enhanced mobility capabilities.

Questions about the Driving Module: 1. How does the driving module improve vehicle maneuverability? 2. What are the potential applications of this technology in the field of robotics?

Original Abstract Submitted

A driving module includes a housing rotatably supported about a knuckle unit, a barrel unit rotatably supported by the housing, a first rotation input unit and a second rotation input unit rotatably supported by the knuckle unit, a first gear unit engaged with the first rotation input unit to transmit a rotation force input from the first rotation input unit to the housing or the barrel unit, a second gear unit engaged with the second rotation input unit and the first gear unit to transmit a rotation force input from the second rotation input unit to the housing or the barrel unit, and a controller configured to control rotations of the first rotation input unit and the second rotation input unit independently of each other to selectively rotate the housing or the barrel unit so that a vehicle is movable in all directions.
