ICE MAKER AND REFRIGERATOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18094033 titled 'ICE MAKER AND REFRIGERATOR
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes a refrigerator with a refrigerating compartment, a freezing compartment, and an ice maker in the freezing compartment. The ice maker includes an upper tray, a lower tray, and a driver to open spherical ice chambers. The upper tray has thermally-insulating portions to prevent cold air from invading the ice chambers.
- The refrigerator has a refrigerating compartment and a freezing compartment.
- The ice maker is positioned in the freezing compartment.
- The ice maker includes an upper tray and a lower tray made of elastic material.
- The upper tray is exposed to cold air flowing from a cold-air hole.
- The lower tray is coupled to the upper tray and defines spherical ice chambers.
- A driver is used to open the spherical ice chambers.
- Thermally-insulating portions are formed on the top face of the upper tray.
- The thermally-insulating portions prevent cold air from invading the ice chambers.
Potential Applications
- Household refrigerators and freezers
- Commercial refrigeration units
- Ice-making machines
Problems Solved
- Prevents cold air from invading the ice chambers
- Ensures the ice chambers maintain the desired temperature
Benefits
- Improved ice-making efficiency
- Consistent ice quality
- Reduced energy consumption
Original Abstract Submitted
Provided is a refrigerator including a cabinet having a refrigerating compartment and a freezing compartment defined therein and an ice maker disposed in the freezing compartment. The ice maker includes a cold-air hole for receiving cold air, an upper tray made of an elastic material, wherein the upper tray is positioned to be exposed to the cold-air flowing from the cold-air hole, a lower tray made of an elastic material, wherein the lower tray is coupled to the upper tray to define a plurality of spherical ice chambers therebetween, a driver for pivoting the lower tray to open the spherical ice chambers, at least one thermally-insulating portion formed at a top face of the upper tray and corresponding to at least one of the ice chambers respectively, wherein the at least one thermally-insulating portion is constructed to prevent the cold-air from invading the at least one corresponding ice chamber.
