AUTOMATED DETECTION AND MITIGATION OF INTRA- AND INTERDOMAIN CONFLICTS IN OPEN RADIO ACCESS NETWORKS - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17932737 titled 'AUTOMATED DETECTION AND MITIGATION OF INTRA- AND INTERDOMAIN CONFLICTS IN OPEN RADIO ACCESS NETWORKS
Simplified Explanation
The computer-implemented method described in the abstract involves addressing conflicts in a radio access network (RAN) by generating a policy for a near-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller (near-RT RIC) based on analyzing xApps' activity logs. This policy is then sent to the near-RT RIC to guide its response to requests from xApps to update RAN parameters.
- The method involves generating a policy for a near-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller (near-RT RIC) by analyzing xApps' activity logs.
- The policy specifies how the near-RT RIC should respond to requests from xApps to update RAN parameters, allowing or restricting parameter updates based on the policy.
Potential Applications
This technology could be applied in telecommunications networks to improve the efficiency and performance of radio access networks by managing conflicts and updates to RAN parameters.
Problems Solved
This technology helps address conflicts that may arise in a radio access network when multiple xApps request updates to RAN parameters simultaneously, ensuring that updates are made in a coordinated and controlled manner.
Benefits
- Improved network performance and efficiency - Enhanced coordination of updates to RAN parameters - Reduction of conflicts and errors in parameter updates
Potential Commercial Applications
Optimizing radio access networks in telecommunications industry Improving network management and performance in 5G networks
Possible Prior Art
Prior art may include methods for managing conflicts and updates in network controllers or policies for coordinating actions in telecommunications networks.
What are the potential security implications of implementing this technology?
Implementing this technology could raise security concerns related to unauthorized access to RAN parameters or potential vulnerabilities in the communication between xApps and the RICs. Proper encryption and authentication measures would need to be in place to mitigate these risks.
How does this technology compare to traditional methods of managing conflicts in radio access networks?
This technology offers a more automated and intelligent approach to managing conflicts in RANs by analyzing xApps' activity logs and generating policies for the near-RT RIC. Traditional methods may rely more on manual intervention and coordination, potentially leading to slower response times and increased risk of errors.
Original Abstract Submitted
A computer-implemented method for addressing conflicts in a radio access network (RAN) includes generating, by a non-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller (non-RT RIC), a policy for a near-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller (near-RT RIC) by analyzing an activity log of several xApps, which are being executed by the near-RT RIC. The method further includes sending, by the non-RT RIC the policy to the near-RT RIC to cause the near-RT RIC, in response to receiving a request from an xApp from the several xApps to update a parameter of the RAN. The policy specifies an update the parameter based on the policy allowing the xApp to update the parameter. The policy further specifies maintaining the parameter unchanged based on the policy restricting the xApp to update the parameter.
