IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18606004 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

The image forming apparatus described in the patent application includes an image bearing member, an intermediary transfer belt, a first detachable collecting container, and a second detachable collecting container.

  • The image bearing member bears a toner image to form a toner image.
  • The toner image is transferred onto the intermediary transfer belt.
  • The first and second detachable collecting containers are used to collect residual toner discharged from the image forming portion.
  • The first and second collecting containers are positioned below the intermediary transfer belt and are placed side by side in a widthwise direction perpendicular to the rotational axis direction of the image bearing member.
  • At least a part of the first and second collecting containers overlap with the intermediary transfer belt in the vertical direction.
  • The length of each collecting container in the widthwise direction is longer than the length in a height direction.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in various types of image forming devices such as printers, copiers, and multifunction devices.

Problems Solved: This innovation addresses the issue of efficiently collecting residual toner to prevent contamination and maintain the quality of printed images.

Benefits: - Improved cleanliness and maintenance of image forming devices - Enhanced image quality due to proper toner collection - Extended lifespan of the image forming apparatus

Commercial Applications: This technology can be utilized in the manufacturing of commercial printers, copiers, and other imaging devices to improve their efficiency and longevity in various office and business settings.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the positioning of the detachable collecting containers contribute to the overall efficiency of the image forming apparatus? 2. What are the potential cost-saving benefits for businesses implementing this technology in their imaging devices?

Original Abstract Submitted

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member for bearing a toner image to form a toner image, an intermediary transfer belt onto which the toner image is transferred, a first detachable collecting container to collect residual toner discharged from the image forming portion, and a second detachable collecting container to collect the residual toner discharged from the image forming portion. The first and second collecting containers are provided below a lower surface of the intermediary transfer belt and disposed side by side in a widthwise direction perpendicular to a rotational axis direction of the image bearing member, and at least a part of the first and second collecting containers overlap with the intermediary transfer belt as viewed in the vertical direction. In addition, a length of each of the first and second collecting containers in the widthwise direction is longer than the length in a height direction.
