DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240224704 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a display device with a display panel that has two distinct regions - one with pixels and another with light-transmitting regions. An opening/closing module controls the light passing through these regions based on the activation of an optical sensor located below the panel.

  • The display device includes a display panel with two regions - one with pixels and another with light-transmitting regions.
  • An opening/closing module regulates the light passing through the light-transmitting regions.
  • An optical sensor beneath the panel triggers the opening/closing module based on its activation.

Potential Applications: 1. Smartphones and tablets with adjustable display brightness based on ambient light conditions. 2. E-readers with automatic screen dimming to reduce eye strain. 3. Automotive displays that adjust visibility based on external lighting.

Problems Solved: 1. Efficient control of display brightness without manual adjustments. 2. Enhanced user experience by adapting to varying lighting conditions. 3. Improved energy efficiency by optimizing light transmission.

Benefits: 1. Enhanced visibility and readability in different lighting environments. 2. Reduced eye strain and improved user comfort. 3. Energy savings through automatic brightness adjustments.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be applied in various consumer electronics such as smartphones, tablets, e-readers, and automotive displays to provide users with optimal visibility and comfort while saving energy.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the opening/closing module work in conjunction with the optical sensor? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology in different display devices?

Original Abstract Submitted

embodiments disclose a display device including a display panel including a first display region in which a plurality of first pixels are disposed, a second display region including pixel regions in which a plurality of second pixels are disposed and a plurality of light-transmitting regions, and an opening/closing module configured to control light passing through the plurality of light-transmitting regions, and an optical sensor disposed below the display panel, wherein the opening/closing module opens the light-transmitting region when the optical sensor is driven, and blocks the light-transmitting region when the optical sensor is not driven.
