DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240224645 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

The patent application describes a display device with a unique structure for driving sub-pixels efficiently and effectively.

  • The display device includes a substrate with emission and non-emission areas, sub-pixels in the emission area, and a driving circuit with transistors and wiring lines in the non-emission area.
  • A reference line extends in the emission area between sub-pixels, branching into branch lines connected to transistors in the driving circuit to transmit reference signals to each sub-pixel.
  • Each branch line consists of a laminated semiconductor layer and transparent oxide layer crossing into the non-emission area, with an opaque metal layer on top in the non-emission area.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be applied in various display devices such as TVs, monitors, and smartphones. - It can also be used in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headsets for improved image quality.

Problems Solved: - Efficient driving of sub-pixels in a display device. - Ensuring accurate transmission of reference signals to each sub-pixel.

Benefits: - Enhanced display performance with precise control over sub-pixels. - Improved image quality and overall viewing experience for users.

Commercial Applications: - The technology can be utilized by display manufacturers to produce high-quality screens for consumer electronics. - It can also be integrated into automotive displays for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment systems.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the unique structure of the display device contribute to improved image quality? 2. What are the specific advantages of using a laminated semiconductor layer and transparent oxide layer in the branch lines of the reference line?

Original Abstract Submitted

a display device including a substrate with an emission area and a non-emission area; a plurality of sub pixels in the emission area; a driving circuit including a plurality of transistors and wiring lines in the non-emission area for selectively driving each sub pixel; and a reference line extending in the emission area between two adjacent sub pixels and including a plurality of branch lines branching from the reference line and being connected to a respective transistor included in the driving circuit for transmitting a reference signal to each subpixel. further, each branch line comprises a laminated semiconductor layer and transparent oxide layer extending along the emission area and crossing into the non-emission area. in addition, an opaque metal layer is provided on the transparent oxide layer of a corresponding branch line at a position in the non-emission area.
