SENSOR ALIGNMENT FOR A NON-CONTACT PATIENT MONITORING SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18332389 titled 'SENSOR ALIGNMENT FOR A NON-CONTACT PATIENT MONITORING SYSTEM

The disclosed technology involves qualifying sensor alignment relative to a patient's respiratory region by analyzing sensor data and generating an aggregate alignment metric to detect misalignment conditions and provide notifications.

  • Determines respiratory region of the patient
  • Detects sensor data including distances between sensor position and respiratory region
  • Generates aggregate alignment metric based on detected sensor data
  • Identifies misalignment conditions
  • Classifies characteristics of misalignment
  • Generates instructions for misalignment notifications
    • Potential Applications:**

- Medical devices for monitoring respiratory functions - Sleep apnea detection systems - Patient monitoring in healthcare settings

    • Problems Solved:**

- Ensures accurate sensor alignment for precise data collection - Improves patient comfort and safety during monitoring - Enhances the effectiveness of respiratory monitoring devices

    • Benefits:**

- Early detection of misalignment issues - Improved data accuracy for medical diagnosis - Enhanced patient care and monitoring experience

    • Commercial Applications:**

Title: Advanced Respiratory Sensor Alignment Technology for Healthcare Monitoring This technology can be utilized in: - Hospitals and clinics for patient monitoring - Home healthcare devices for remote monitoring - Sleep clinics for sleep disorder diagnosis

    • Questions about Respiratory Sensor Alignment Technology:**

1. How does this technology improve patient care in healthcare settings?

  - This technology ensures accurate sensor alignment for precise data collection, leading to better monitoring and diagnosis of respiratory conditions.

2. What are the potential applications of this technology beyond healthcare?

  - This technology can also be used in sports science for monitoring athletes' respiratory functions during training and performance evaluation.

Original Abstract Submitted

The disclosed technology qualifies sensor alignment relative to a patient environment by determining a respiratory region of the patient, detecting, by the sensor, sensor data including a plurality of distances between a position of the sensor and the respiratory region, generating, based at least in part on the detected sensor data, an aggregate alignment metric, determining that the aggregate alignment metric satisfies a misalignment condition, classifying a characteristic of misalignment of the sensor relative to the determined respiratory region at least partially based on the satisfaction of the misalignment condition, and generating an instruction to provide a misalignment notification based at least partially on the classified characteristic of misalignment.
