FLEXIBLE DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240215189 titled 'FLEXIBLE DISPLAY DEVICE

The abstract describes a flexible display device with a display panel that can be folded along a folding axis, preventing creases in the folding area by applying tension to the panel.

  • Display panel with folding area and non-folding area
  • Cover window on the display panel
  • Back plate supporting the bottom portion of the display panel
  • Support part allowing sliding movement of the back plate
  • First magnetic body on the cover window or back plate
  • Second magnetic body on the support part attracting the first magnetic body
  • Prevention of creases in the folding area by drawing the magnetic bodies towards the non-folding area

Potential Applications: - Foldable smartphones - Flexible electronic devices - Wearable technology

Problems Solved: - Preventing creases in flexible displays - Enhancing durability of foldable devices

Benefits: - Improved longevity of flexible displays - Enhanced user experience with foldable devices

Commercial Applications: Title: "Innovative Flexible Display Technology for Foldable Devices" This technology can be utilized in the development of foldable smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices, catering to the growing demand for flexible and durable electronic products in the market.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the magnetic mechanism prevent creases in the folding area?

  - The magnetic bodies attract each other, drawing the display panel towards the non-folding area, preventing creases.

2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology in commercial devices?

  - Some challenges may include ensuring the durability of the magnetic components and maintaining the flexibility of the display panel over time.

Original Abstract Submitted

a flexible display device can include a display panel configured to display images. the display panel includes at least one folding area that is foldable about a folding axis and a non-folding area. a cover window is provided on the display panel. aback plate supports a bottom portion of the display panel, and a support part supports the back plate in a slidable manner. further, a first magnetic body is connected to the cover window or the back plate. a second magnetic body is also provided on the support part to attract the first magnetic body so that a portion of the second magnetic body connected to the first magnetic body is drawn from the folding area toward the non-folding area. as such, a crease that can develop in the folding area can be prevented from forming by applying tension to the display panel.
