Artificial Reality Weight Simulation for a Virtual Object - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240212302 titled 'Artificial Reality Weight Simulation for a Virtual Object

The present disclosure involves simulating weight for a virtual object in artificial reality environments. This weight simulator can create the sensation of weight for a virtual object when a user interacts with it.

  • The weight simulator uses a spring dynamics model to control the movement of the virtual object based on the user's actions.
  • The virtual object may appear to lag behind the user's movements, mimicking the behavior of connected virtual springs.
  • This technology enhances the user experience by providing a more realistic interaction with virtual objects in artificial reality.

Potential Applications: - Virtual reality gaming - Training simulations - Medical simulations - Architectural design

Problems Solved: - Enhancing realism in artificial reality environments - Improving user engagement and immersion - Providing more accurate feedback during interactions

Benefits: - Enhanced user experience - Increased realism in virtual environments - Improved training and simulation capabilities

Commercial Applications: Title: "Enhancing User Experience in Virtual Reality Environments with Weight Simulation Technology" This technology can be utilized in various industries such as gaming, training, and design to provide a more immersive and realistic experience for users.

Questions about Weight Simulation Technology: 1. How does weight simulation technology improve user engagement in virtual reality environments? Weight simulation technology enhances user engagement by providing a more realistic interaction with virtual objects, making the experience more immersive and engaging.

2. What are the potential applications of weight simulation technology beyond gaming? Weight simulation technology can be applied in various fields such as training simulations, medical simulations, and architectural design to enhance realism and improve user experiences.

Original Abstract Submitted

aspects of the present disclosure are directed to simulating weight for a virtual object in artificial reality. implementations of a weight simulator can simulate weight for a virtual object during interactions with a user in an artificial reality environment. for example, when a user picks up a virtual object with simulated weight, a spring dynamics model may take, as input, the user movement (e.g., had movement while grasping the virtual object) and control the virtual object movement using outputs from the spring dynamics model. the spring dynamics model's control of the virtual object's movement can give the appearance of lag relative to the user's movements. for example, the user may pick up and move the virtual object, and the virtual object may lag (e.g., behind and/or in a rotation) relative the user's hand movements, as if the user's hand and virtual object were connected by one or more virtual springs.
