Device and Method for Controlling Vehicle - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18210403 titled 'Device and Method for Controlling Vehicle

The abstract describes a vehicle control device that uses sensors to gather information about the lane or guardrail the vehicle is traveling in or near. Based on this information, the device determines if the vehicle's travel direction aligns with the lane or guardrail and corrects it if necessary.

  • The vehicle control device includes sensors, a controller, and memory.
  • It acquires information about the lane or guardrail the vehicle is traveling in or near.
  • The device determines if the vehicle's travel direction matches the lane or guardrail.
  • It corrects the travel direction if it does not align with the lane or guardrail.

Potential Applications: - Autonomous driving systems - Lane departure warning systems - Vehicle safety technology

Problems Solved: - Improving vehicle safety by ensuring proper alignment with lanes and guardrails - Preventing accidents caused by drifting out of lanes

Benefits: - Enhanced vehicle safety - Reduced risk of accidents - Improved driving experience

Commercial Applications: Title: Vehicle Safety Enhancement Technology This technology can be used in autonomous vehicles, commercial fleets, and personal vehicles to enhance safety and prevent accidents, appealing to automotive manufacturers, fleet operators, and safety-conscious consumers.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the device determine if the vehicle's travel direction matches the lane or guardrail? - The device uses information from sensors to compare the vehicle's position with the lane or guardrail and makes a determination based on this data.

2. What are the potential implications of incorrect travel direction in relation to lanes and guardrails? - Incorrect travel direction can lead to accidents, collisions, and unsafe driving conditions, highlighting the importance of this technology in enhancing vehicle safety.

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed is a vehicle control device including at least one sensor, a controller, and memory. The vehicle control device acquires, using the at least one sensor, information about at least one of: a lane in which the vehicle is traveling, or a guardrail adjacent to the vehicle, determines, based on the information, whether a travel direction of the vehicle corresponds to at least one of the lane or the guardrail, and corrects the travel direction of the vehicle based on a determination that the travel direction does not correspond to at least one of the lane or the guardrail.
