BATTERY MODULE, AND BATTERY RACK AND ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM INCLUDING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18581713 titled 'BATTERY MODULE, AND BATTERY RACK AND ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM INCLUDING THE SAME

The patent application describes a battery module with a unique cooling system to maintain the temperature of the battery cells.

  • The battery module consists of multiple battery cells housed in a module case.
  • An air intake unit is located on one side of the module case to bring in air for cooling the battery cells.
  • An air discharge unit is situated on the opposite side of the module case to expel the air outside after cooling the battery cells.
  • At least one sheet member is attached to the inner wall of the module case between the air discharge unit and the air intake unit. This sheet member expands at a specific temperature to seal the inner space of the module case.

Potential Applications: - Electric vehicles - Energy storage systems - Portable electronic devices

Problems Solved: - Preventing overheating of battery cells - Ensuring efficient cooling of battery module

Benefits: - Extended battery life - Enhanced safety - Improved performance in high-temperature environments

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Battery Cooling System for Electric Vehicles This technology can be utilized in electric vehicles to enhance battery performance and safety, leading to increased market competitiveness.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the expansion of the sheet member help in sealing the inner space of the module case? 2. What are the specific advantages of using this cooling system in electric vehicles?

Original Abstract Submitted

A battery module a plurality of battery cells, a module case configured to accommodate the plurality of battery cells, an air intake unit provided to one side of the module case and configured to guide an air into the module case to cool the plurality of battery cells, an air discharge unit provided to the other side of the module case and configured to discharge the air introduced into the module case through the air intake unit to the outside of the module case, and at least one sheet member attached to an inner wall of the module case between the air discharge unit and the air intake unit and configured to expand at a predetermined temperature or above to seal an inner space of the module case.
