SEAL MONITORING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17972883 titled 'SEAL MONITORING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

A seal monitoring apparatus with a temperature sensor and controller is used to monitor the condition of a seal on a device by comparing measured temperature data with expected temperature data based on operating conditions.

  • The apparatus includes a temperature sensor mounted at the seal of a device.
  • The controller receives temperature data from the sensor and calculates expected temperature data based on device operating conditions.
  • The controller determines the condition of the seal by comparing measured temperature data with expected temperature data.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Integration of a temperature sensor and controller for seal monitoring.
  • Calculation of expected temperature data based on operating conditions.
  • Determination of seal condition through temperature comparison.

Potential Applications

The technology can be used in various industries such as manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and more where seals are critical for equipment performance.

Problems Solved

  • Early detection of seal degradation or failure.

Questions about Seal Monitoring Apparatus

Question 1

How does the controller calculate expected temperature data for the seal based on operating conditions?

The controller calculates expected temperature data by analyzing the operating conditions of the device and using this information to predict the temperature the seal should be at under normal circumstances.

Question 2

What are some potential challenges in implementing this seal monitoring technology in different industries?

Some potential challenges in implementing this technology in different industries include calibration for specific equipment, integration with existing systems, and ensuring accurate temperature measurements in various operating environments.

Original Abstract Submitted

A seal monitoring apparatus is provided. The seal monitoring apparatus includes a temperature sensor and a controller in communication with the temperature sensor. The temperature sensor is mounted at a seal of a device. The controller is configured to receive measured temperature data from the temperature sensor and calculate expected temperature data for the seal based at least in part on operating conditions of the device. The controller is configured to determine a condition of the seal based at least in part on a temperature difference of the measured temperature data from the expected temperature data.
