Abstract: a method for operating a machine tool with a gentle start-up, preferably a jigsaw wherein at least one physical characteristic of the machine tool, in particular a motor and/or battery current, is detected by a detection unit, in particular a control or regulating unit of the machine tool, in an idle operating state of the machine tool with a throttled movement. a threshold of the physical characteristic, in particular a scraping threshold, is ascertained by an analysis unit, in particular the control or regulating unit of the machine tool, on the basis of the detected physical characteristic, and in further operation of the machine tool, a drive unit of the machine tool is set to an operating state under load, with a movement speed which is increased relative to the idle operating state with a throttled movement, when it is detected that the ascertained threshold has been overshot or undershot.
