METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR RECOGNIZING USER MOTION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18430738 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR RECOGNIZING USER MOTION

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method and apparatus for recognizing a user's motion by mapping leg angle information to context information, generating motion events, and recognizing the user's motion based on previous movements.

  • The apparatus compares right and left leg angle information to a comparison value or preset threshold.
  • It generates motion events based on a criterion corresponding to the context information.
  • The user's motion is recognized based on the motion event and previous user movements.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in:

  • Fitness tracking devices
  • Physical therapy monitoring systems
  • Virtual reality gaming controllers

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology handle variations in user movements?

The technology may use machine learning algorithms to adapt to different user motion patterns and adjust the recognition criteria accordingly.

Can this technology be integrated with existing fitness tracking apps?

Yes, this technology can potentially be integrated with existing fitness tracking apps through APIs or software development kits (SDKs) to enhance motion tracking capabilities.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method and apparatus for recognizing a motion of a user are provided. The apparatus may map each of right leg angle information and left leg angle information to context information by comparing each of the right leg angle information and left leg angle information to a comparison value and/or preset threshold, may generate a motion event corresponding to the context information based on a criterion, and may recognize the motion of the user based on the motion event and a previous motion of the user.
