APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18226670 titled 'APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an apparatus for controlling a vehicle, which includes a relay, a sensor for detecting the state of charge of the battery and the opening and closing of the vehicle door, and a controller that manages the relay based on the battery's state of charge and external power sources to charge the battery when needed.

  • The apparatus includes a relay that can close to supply power from a battery to an electric field load or open to block the power.
  • A sensor is used to detect the state of charge (SOC) value of the battery and the opening and closing of the vehicle door.
  • The controller is responsible for controlling the relay to close when the SOC value of the battery is low and the door is opened, charging the battery with power from an external power device.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and other battery-powered vehicles to optimize battery charging and usage.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient battery charging: The apparatus ensures that the battery is charged when needed, improving the overall efficiency of the vehicle. 2. Battery management: By monitoring the state of charge and external power sources, the apparatus helps in effectively managing the battery usage.

Benefits

1. Extended battery life: By controlling the charging process based on the battery's state of charge, the technology can help prolong the battery's lifespan. 2. Improved vehicle performance: Optimized battery usage leads to better vehicle performance and energy efficiency.

Potential Commercial Applications

"Smart Battery Charging System for Vehicles" - This technology could be marketed to automotive manufacturers and electric vehicle companies looking to enhance their battery management systems.

Possible Prior Art

One potential prior art could be existing battery management systems in vehicles that monitor the state of charge and control the charging process based on the battery's needs.

Unanswered Questions

The patent application does not provide details on the communication protocol or method used to connect with external power sources.

What safety measures are in place to prevent overcharging or overheating of the battery during the charging process?

The patent application does not mention specific safety features or mechanisms to prevent potential risks during the battery charging process.

Original Abstract Submitted

An apparatus for controlling a vehicle includes a relay which is controlled to close to supply a power from a battery to an electric field load or is controlled to open to block the power, a sensor that detects a state of charge (SOC) value of the battery and opening and closing of a door of the vehicle, and a controller that is configured to control the relay to close based on the power supplied from the battery or a power of an external power device, when the controller concludes that the SOC value of the battery is less than a first reference value and that the door is opened, and charges the battery with the power supplied from the external electronic device.
