MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND CARTRIDGE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18284405 titled 'MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND CARTRIDGE

Simplified Explanation

The magnetic recording medium described in the patent application is capable of correcting a change in width caused by high-temperature environments by adjusting the running tension of the medium. The medium has specific characteristics such as low change in width after being left still in a high-temperature environment and high tension responsiveness.

  • The magnetic recording medium has a tape shape.
  • The medium exhibits minimal change in width after being left still in a high-temperature environment.
  • The running tension of the medium can be adjusted to correct any changes in width.
  • The tension responsiveness of the medium is high in high-temperature environments.

Potential Applications

The technology described in the patent application could be applied in:

  • Magnetic tape storage systems
  • Data backup solutions
  • Audio recording devices

Problems Solved

The technology addresses issues such as:

  • Maintaining the integrity of data stored on magnetic recording media in high-temperature environments
  • Preventing distortion or damage to the magnetic recording medium due to temperature changes

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include:

  • Improved reliability of data storage in challenging environmental conditions
  • Extended lifespan of magnetic recording media
  • Consistent performance in high-temperature settings

Potential Commercial Applications

The technology could find commercial applications in:

  • Data centers
  • Surveillance systems
  • Industrial automation

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of temperature-resistant materials in magnetic recording media to address issues related to high-temperature environments.

What are the specific characteristics of the magnetic recording medium described in the patent application?

The specific characteristics include low change in width after being left still in a high-temperature environment and high tension responsiveness.

How does the running tension of the magnetic recording medium help in correcting changes in width?

By adjusting the running tension of the medium, any changes in width caused by high-temperature environments can be corrected, ensuring the stability and reliability of the magnetic recording medium.

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided is a magnetic recording medium with a tape shape capable of correcting a change in width of the magnetic recording medium by adjusting a running tension of the magnetic recording medium in a case where the magnetic recording medium is saved or caused to run in a high-temperature environment. The magnetic recording medium is a magnetic recording medium with a tape shape, an amount of change in average width of the magnetic recording medium before and after the magnetic recording medium is left still for 40 hours in an environment at a temperature of 50° C. and a relative humidity of 40% RH in a state where a tension of 0.55 N is applied in a longitudinal direction is 170 ppm or less, and an average tension responsiveness with respect to a tension in the longitudinal direction in the environment at a temperature of 50° C. and a relative humidity of 40% RH is 700 ppm/N or more.
